Astrid Schmetterling is an art historian and art theorist. She teaches at the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths College, University of London. The main focus of her academic work and teaching is on studying the interrelations between history, culture and remembrance. She has published, among others, a monograph on Charlotte Salomon (Jüdischer Verlag im Suhrkamp Verlag, 2001), a contribution to the catalog on the Else Lasker-Schüler exhibition, Die Bilder (Jüdischer Verlag im Suhrkamp Verlag, 2010), and a book with Lynn Turner, Visual Cultures As Recollection (Sternberg Press, 2013).
She also published an essay in the catalog Stoffe aus Lublin / Bławatne z Lublina (Spectorbooks, 2011) on the solo show by Ulrike Grossarth at Kunsthaus Dresden (2010).
